Shift those extra pounds
Q. I have been dieting for a while so that I can look good in my wedding dress. Although I have lost some weight, it isn't dropping off from my tummy and arms - the two areas which would make a difference to how I look on my wedding day. What do you recommend? I only have two months left before getting married.
A. Kelly Harding says: The Skin & Laser Clinic in Woking is the first Surrey-based clinic to offer iLipo Plus - which could be the ideal solution to your problem. iLipo, which is laser treatment to break down fat in a particular area of your choice, is pain free, with no needles or downtime. Clear results can be achieved in a short space of time. In fact, the majority of people can expect to reduce an area by one to two dress sizes after a course of just eight treatments. iLipo is carried out in around 200 clinical centres worldwide , with no reported adverse effects, either post or during treatment. We believe, however, that in order to get the best results, the 20 minute laser session should be followed by immediate exercise to burn the fat that has been released during the laser treatment. That's why we have enhanced our iLipo offer by including a one hour personal training session after the treatment. The personal training is tailored specifically to the patient's ability and stamina - so those who are not used to exercise will be taken for a brisk walk and encouraged to do some basic exercises, whilst those who are fitter will be given a more challenging exercise programme. iLipo Plus is not only ideal for brides who want fat reduction from either bottoms, tummies, legs or arms but is also popular amongst mothers of the bride who want a quick and easy way of shaping up for their daughter's big day. With the right guidance, you will be able to maintain the weight loss from the iLipo sessions, ensuring long-term results which last way beyond the wedding day. NO SWEAT
Q. When I get nervous, I get quite sweaty. I am worried that I will have sweaty armpits on my wedding day and will end up ruining my wedding dress.
A. Kelly Harding says: You are right - sweat patches on clothes are not at all attractive and certainly not something you want to be worrying about on your wedding day. Excessive sweating is a fairly common problem, which one in 20 people in the UK suffer from. Unknown to most people, Botox, which is best known for reducing fine lines, can work wonders on sweaty armpits!
If Botox is injected into the sweat glands, it can stop the glands from sweating for up to nine months. It is a safe and proven method of stopping sweat and has very minor downtime.
My main advice to anyone who wishes to have Botox is to make sure it is administered by a qualified doctor to ensure their complete safety.

Under control
Q. I suffer from acne. Is there anything I can do to minimise breakouts on my wedding day?
A. Kelly Harding says: Acne can be both uncomfortable and embarrassing and is certainly not something you want to be worrying about on your wedding day. Whether your acne is on your face, back or shoulders, treatment is available which can make a huge difference.
If you suffer from active acne, I would advise going on a four week course of benzoyl peroxide which comes in the form of a cream or lotion. Benzoyl peroxide contains antibacterial agents and reduces the p acne bacteria which is the main cause of the inflammation of the skin. If applied daily over the four week period, benzoyl peroxide is likely to significantly reduce the active breakouts.
I would then recommend a course of six to eight peels - ideally every one to two weeks - to help with the appearance of the skin. The best peels are glycolic peels, which really help with acne, acne scarring, hyper-pigmentation and uneven skin tone.
The combination of the benzoyl peroxide and glycolic peels will help you to look as radiant as possible for your big day - but don't forget to start the treatment about three months before your wedding in order to see optimum results.

Hair today gone tomorrow
Q. What is the best way to treat excess facial hair and how far ahead of my wedding day and when should I start the treatment?
A. Kelly Harding says: Many people suffer from unwanted hair, whether on their face or body, and it's actually very easy to have it permanently removed.
By far the best way to remove excess hair is to use laser treatment. It is safe, fast and very effective. On average, a course of six treatments is needed, at four to six weekly intervals. For a summer wedding, for example, treatment ideally needs to begin in early March.
The great thing about laser treatment is that there is no downtime or recovery period. This means that the last session could easily be carried out just a week before the big day.No one wants to worry about shaving before their wedding day or on their honeymoon. Due to the advances in laser technology, more and more people are deciding to have hair permanently removed and it is particularly popular for the face, underarms and bikini areas.
My one piece of advice would be to make sure that you have your laser treatment at a reputable clinic. Before undertaking the treatment, check that:
1. The clinic is registered with the Healthcare Commission and ask to see the certificate. 2. The person who is treating you is medically trained and understands the medication that may effect treatment. 3. The surroundings are clean and any medication you are on gets written on your file. 4. You are asked to fill out a full medical history and have a consultation prior to treatment. 5. A patch test is carried out 48 hours before treatment to test for adverse sensitivity.

Get the perfect bridal glow
Q. How do you prepare your skin to look radiant for the big day?
A. Kelly Harding says: The biggest mistake people make is to address the issue about three weeks before the wedding. If they start a skincare regime at this late stage, and suffer adverse reactions to any products or treatments, they will have little time to put this right.
In order to look as radiant as possible, you need to focus on your skincare regime about three to four months before the big day.
Begin your skincare programme with a good skincare regime. Use high quality cleansers and resurfacing products (which prevent the skin from looking dull by keeping the epidermis or skin surface to a minimum) for about two weeks. After that, try to book in four or five skin treatments such as microdermabrasion facials or mild peels. Having treatments such as these every two weeks should make a huge difference to the appearance of your skin.
For the three weeks leading up to the wedding, simply use your skincare products. Allow your skin time to recover from the treatments. Needless to say, throughout this time make sure you drink plenty of water, eat plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables and get plenty of sleep. Taking care of yourself in this way will have a huge impact on how your skin looks on your wedding day.
Above all, my golden rule is: avoid sunbeds completely. Sunbeds increase the risk of pigmentation and can leave the skin looking dull. Use a spray tan instead ? but make sure it is moisturising and will not dry out your skin.
Follow the advice above and ? even with the impact of those pre-wedding nerves on your skin ? your skin should look glowing on your wedding day. |
